Participating walkers and local charities will gather for a presentation event at Les Rocquettes Hotel this evening to celebrate the whopping £40,000 raised following June’s Itex-Rotary Around the Island Walk. During the event, the benefitting charities will be awarded their donations by His Excellency, the Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey Sir Fabian Malbon and Lady Malbon, supported by Itex, the Rotary Club of Guernsey and Rotary de la Guernesiais.
505 walkers participated in the 40-mile Walk this year. In addition to distribution of charitable donations, several walkers were recognised for their efforts. Doug Masters of Portsmouth, aged 84 received an award for being the oldest walker and Hannah English of Torteval, aged just 11 was recognised for being the youngest. Continued

THE wet weather didn’t hold back the many young explorers who visited the North Show last week.
Over 150 children took part in the North Show Explorer competition which was organised by the show’s sponsor, De Putron Fund Management.
A series of questions, on the many sights and sounds of the event, took the young visitors on a tour of the showground, encouraging them to find out more about this year’s North Show. For three lucky entrants, their skills won them one of the three prizes. Continued

Chartered Surveyors and Property Consultants, Jones Watts Limited, has recently strengthened its professional team with the appointment of Chartered Commercial Property Surveyor, Wing Lai MSc MRICS, and Graduate surveyor Nicole Ozanne MPlan.
Wing joins the firm having qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 2009 whilst working as an Asset Manager for Bruntwood Limited, one of the largest commercial property owners and developers in the North of England. Prior to this Wing attended the Guernsey Grammar School before graduating from the University of Exeter with an Upper Second Class degree in Geography. Wave Telecom is calling all islanders who are planning to travel to Jersey for Jersey Live 2010 to get involved in its sister company’s initiative to create Jersey’s largest ‘tagged’ photo of the event.
Jersey Telecom will take a crowd photo from the main stage of the event on Saturday 4th September at 6pm which will be uploaded to Jersey Telecom’s Facebook page. All of those in the photo who are Facebook users are invited to identify themselves and ‘get tagging’ with the aim of creating Jersey’s largest tagged photo using Facebook Connect. Continued

Huelin-Renouf Shipping has awarded a bursary worth £4,500 over three years to a young Channel Islander whose ambition is to pursue a life at sea.
Ashley Foster is a 19-year-old Alderney student about to embark on a four-year degree course at Plymouth University where he will study Merchant Shipping Marine Studies with the aim of obtaining a BSc (Hons) and Officer of the Watch qualification to become a Merchant Navy deck officer. One year of the course has to be spent at sea and he will be spending that time on board Huelin-Renouf’s two freight ships, MV Huelin Dispatch and MV Huelin Endeavour. Continued

A group of local companies joined forces today to clean up Saumarez Park which has played host to the North Show over the last two days.
Coordinated for the second year by sponsors of the event, De Putron Fund Management, a number of employees worked hard to help to restore the area’s tidy appearance over the course of a few hours.
Hayley de Putron, Head of Global Investment at De Putron Fund Management felt that it was important for local companies to not only support community events financially but to also give a helping hand if possible. Continued

Mark Roberts has been crowned the Guernsey racketball champion after winning the first Butterfield Closed Racketball Tournament.
Roberts clinched the title in the final match against Mick Mahy with a 2 – 0 result at the tournament organised by the Guernsey Squash & Racketball Association at Beau Sejour.
21 competitors entered and the tournament kicked off by Paul Luxon and Chris Bourgaize producing a hard fought battle with Luxon coming out on top in 2 – 1 result. Continued
