Guernsey News, 16 March 2010 – Deputy Graham Guille represented the States of Guernsey at the 40th plenary session of the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly (BIPA) in Ireland last month.
The Vale Deputy joined delegates representing the parliaments of the United Kingdom, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and the Crown Dependencies, at the session in Cavan over the weekend of 21-23 February.
It was the 20th anniversary conference of the Assembly, which first met as the British Irish Inter Parliamentary Body in London in February 1990. Continued

NatWest has appointed Guernseywoman, Claire Stanbury, as head of its sub branches.
Claire Stanbury will oversee NatWest’s branches in St. Peter, Cobo, St. Martin and St. Sampson, where she is based. In her new role she will take responsibility for 18 employees and ensure the branches deliver a world-class service to its customers.
Claire, who was deputy branch manager for more than two years, has worked for the Bank for ten years in various customer service roles. Educated at Les Beaucamps secondary school, Claire was the first person in the Channel Islands to complete the RBS Group’s Management Discovery Programme. Continued

Guernsey News, 15 March 2010 – IFF research has interviewed 2023 households in Guernsey and Alderney to obtain information on their use of childcare, childcare needs and their views on childcare provision in the Islands. The initial fieldwork stage of the research is now complete and IFF will not be contacting any new households.
Deputy Hunter Adam, Chair of the Social Policy Group, said that he was very pleased with the research so far.
“I would like to thank everyone who has taken part in the research,” said Deputy Adam, “The Social Policy Group hopes to receive the results in the summer. A States report will then follow.”

INVESTEC is offering all staff members free bus travel in exchange for leaving their cars at home.
As part of Investec’s endeavours to be as green an organisation as possible, all 130 staff members in Guernsey are being offered a bus pass entitling them to unlimited travel for one year, a move which the company hopes will radically reduce the number of car journeys made by individual employees to and from the office.

Guernsey News, 11 March 2010 – The Chief Ministers of Guernsey and Jersey are both in Gibraltar today (10th March) and will be meeting Gibraltar’s Chief Minister Peter Caruana. In the meeting they will discuss sharing knowledge and best practice on how smaller jurisdictions can punch above their weight in a global community.
The visit was timed so that both Chief Ministers could be part of the discussions and strengthen the relationship between the Channel Islands and Gibraltar. Continued

Guernsey News, 10 March 2010 – A Guernsey charity is set to unveil its refurbished premises at a coffee morning this week, thanks to sustained commitment totalling over £10,000 from Deutsche Bank.
The Ron Short Centre at Beau Sejour, which opened its doors for the very first time in 1977, is holding a coffee morning on Wednesday 10th March between 10am and 12pm at which it will unveil the latest phase in its refurbishment plans. This includes a new purpose-built double door entrance to its conservatory shop, which sells jewellery, toys, books, CDs, bric-a-brac and second hand clothes. Continued

Guernsey News, 9 March 2010 – Figures issued today show that the value of investment funds in Guernsey increased by £2.7bn (1.5%) during the final three months of last year.
The second successive quarter of growth takes the total value of funds business in the Island to £184.2bn at the end of December 2009.
However, over the full calendar year, this is a decline of £16.2bn (8.1%) from the end of December 2008.
“We can continue to be cautiously optimistic about our funds sector,” said Peter Niven, Chief Executive of Guernsey Finance. Continued

Guernsey News, 8 March 2010 – Wave Telecom has launched GSM roaming with AeroMobile. AeroMobile AS provides roaming facility onboard aircrafts, enabling global coverage. It is a safe, cost effective solution allowing passengers to use their mobile phones and PDA’s whilst in flight. As a result of the agreement, Wave subscribers are now able to use their handset on board a large number of flights.
