Mr McArthur has over 20 years experience of the finance sector in Jersey, initially with KPMG, before moving into fund administration with Deutsche Bank and subsequently State Street. Most recently Mr McArthur was chief executive at Northern Trust Jersey.

Clydesdale Bank International comes top in open vote

Guernsey News, 8 February 2010 – Clydesdale Bank International has been voted the Best Fixed Rate Deposit Provider in the Investment International Awards 2009.

More than 800 of the publication’s readers voted in the annual awards, which had no set nominees.

Every bank in Europe was therefore a potential winner, with Guernsey-based Clydesdale Bank International totalling the most votes for the category.

CONDOR FERRIES’ CHIEF OFFICERS SUCCESSFULLY PASS PILOTAGE TRAINING

Guernsey News, 8 February 2010 – Two of Condor Ferries’ most promising Chief Officers have successfully achieved their Special Pilot’s Licence in Guernsey.

Steve Crowe and Mark Thompson completed an extensive 3 week training course with Guernsey Harbours, culminating in a rigorous exam. The exam qualifies them to pilot the three Condor Ferries fast vessels into and out of St Peter Port harbour without the need for a Port of Guernsey pilot to come on board to help. Continued

CHILDCARE NEEDS SURVEY

Guernsey News, 5 February 2010 – MORE than 1,000 households have been contacted by researchers for the Policy Council investigating childcare issues in the Bailiwick.

The Policy Council’s Social Policy Group commissioned IFF Research towards the end of last year to carry out a telephone interview survey of 2,000 households in the islands. The survey is seeking respondents’ views on childcare and how children, and the issue of childcare, can impact on working and family life.

Deputy Hunter Adam, Chair of the Social Policy Group, said that the survey was progressing well. It continues this month and possibly into March. Continued

TRAINING BUDGET BOOSTED BY CHARITY OF THE YEAR DONATION

GUERNSEY RNLIGuernsey News, 4 February 2010 – The RNLI Guernsey training budget has received a significant boost this month thanks to the fundraising efforts of staff from one local business.

Representatives from RBC Wealth Management’s Sports and Social Committee presented the local branch of the RNLI with a cheque for £8,128. RNLI was nominated by staff as their chosen charity of the year in 2009 and the money raised was a result of a series of fundraising events.

The donation has exceeded the expectations of Captain Peter Gill, Lifeboat Operations Manager and Guernsey’s Harbour Master. With a training budget of £19,000, the money will make a huge difference to RNLI Guernsey. Continued

Butterfield raise thousands for Haiti with an auction of promises

Guernsey News, 4 February 2010 – BUTTERFIELD staff have raised thousands of pounds for the Haiti earthquake appeal.

The Bank’s Charitable Donations Committee pledged £500, adding to the £2,762 already raised by employees. Butterfield’s Managing Director, Bob Moore, pledged a further amount on behalf of the Bank to take the final total to £3,500.

Employees of Butterfield Bank and affiliate Butterfield Fulcrum Group baked cakes, cooked bacon rolls, dressed down, sold second-hand books and organised a raffle. Staff also donated their time and skills in an auction of promises, which included bowling, sailing and racquetball lessons, face painting, craft-making for a child’s birthday party, manicures, car washing, and a personal chef. Butterfield to sponsor the Guernsey Music Centre Spring Concert

Guernsey News, 4 February 2010 – BUTTERFIELD will be instrumental in showcasing Guernsey’s young musical talent this spring.

The sponsored concert will take place on Saturday 6 February at St James Concert and Assembly Hall from 7.30pm. Performances will be given by the Youth Training Orchestra, Youth Wind Band and Youth Choir.

Conductors Keith Dawber, Tim Wright and Jeanette Elder will lead Guernsey’s most accomplished young musicians in a programme that includes Jean Sibelius’ Finlandia and the beautiful slow movement of Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto, with soloist Philippa Inderwick. Continued

Over 1,500 people complete their Income Tax form online

Guernsey News, 4 February 2010 – MORE than 1,500 people completed their Income Tax form online last year. But Income Tax staff want to know why hundreds of people who registered to use the service did not eventually take it up.

‘We’d say our take up was reasonably successful,’ said Tania Sargent, Central Services Manager at Income Tax. ‘We had 1,644 forms completed electronically, that’s about 5% of the paper forms issued.

‘But more than 4,000 people registered to use the service and we’d like to know why so many didn’t go on to complete the form. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. We really want to encourage more people to take advantage of the online services and see the benefits we will introduce.’ Continued
