CHILDREN from Amherst Primary School children will have the chance to play against Wimbledon champion Pat Cash at this year’s Guernsey Tennis Classic.
The event was launched last year and is sponsored by Investec Specialist Bank, which has a charitable partnership with the school.
As well as showing off their skills on the court, the legends, who also include three time Grand Slam doubles champion Peter McNamara, two time Grand Slam doubles champion Jeremy Bates and French Open finalist Mikael Pernfors, will be meeting children from Amherst Primary School, hosting a brunch at The Farmhouse and attending an exclusive party organised by Investec, during their two-day visit.
‘When we agreed sponsorship of the event, we wanted to ensure that children at Amherst Primary School were given the opportunity to meet some of the players too, as what they have all achieved is truly inspirational,’ said head of Investec Bank (Channel Islands) Limited, Stephen Henry.
The event takes place on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 November at the Guernsey Tennis Centre.
‘We are delighted that children from the school will have the opportunity to meet tennis legends such as Pat Cash and Peter McNamara. Sport is an important part of our curriculum so I am sure the children will enjoy and gain from the tennis players,’ said Amherst Primary School head teacher Tracey Moore.
The Guernsey Tennis Classic allows islanders the opportunity to watch world-class players in singles and doubles matches on their doorstep.
‘I have heard so many great things about the Guernsey Tennis Classic from the players who participated last year, and I can’t wait to come over,’ said Mr Cash.
