Last night we held our third Volunteer Open Evening at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
13 new volunteers attended and enjoyed the Induction Evening and the first has already started helping today.
Judy, Amy, Brenda, Sarah, Nicolle, Alice, Jack, Sue, Shelia, Sue, Tanya, Stacey and Rachel all attended and are planning to help start over the net few weeks with everything from fund raising to reception, animal care work to walking dogs and the GSPCA are over joyed with their enthusiasm and support for the work of the Shelter.
We are always looking for those keen to help animals in Guernsey and in the last three induction evenings we have over 50 new volunteers helping us care for the 1000′s of animals we see every year.
Our BIG event coming up is the Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday on the 15th September and many of our new volunteers will be there giving a hand but if you can help we would love to hear from you.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said ‘It is wonderful to see how many keen new volunteers want to help at the GSPCA.’
‘Some give a few hours every few months and others give up full days a few times each week and every moment helps make a big difference.’
‘We could not run the GSPCA without all of our wonderful volunteers and a huge thank you must go to all of them and all those especially that will be helping with the Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday on the 15th September.’
‘After the success of the last three Induction Evenings we’ve already planned another date in October.’
Our fourth Volunteer Induction Evening we are planning to hold on Wednesday 9th October at 6.30pm at the Animal Shelter.
To help as a volunteer on site you must be over 14 years of age but you can help in other ways if you are younger by fund raising and with the many events we have through the year.
The evenings start at 6.30pm in the Training Room at the Shelter with introductions and a talk about the work of the Shelter and a basic induction. After the talk each individual has a chance to chat to GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne about how they would like to help and the different possibilities.
The last three events finished around 8pm and if you are interested in helping please do come along.
