THE new anti drink drive campaign is being taken out onto the island’s roads.
The new look campaign, which is sponsored by Lagan Construction, was launched in August and has been seen on the back of buses and in pubs, bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Now four police vehicles as well as a number of vehicles owned by Lagan Construction will be spreading the message further.
‘The anti drink drive campaign is an important part of the island’s overall approach to improving road safety and so what better way of spreading that message is there? Our vehicles travel hundreds of miles each week and reach every corner of the island and so Guernsey Police is only too happy to be able to play our part in making sure everyone understands the consequences of driving while under the influence of alcohol,’ said John Tostevin, Guernsey Police traffic sergeant.
The new campaign, which is in association with the Drug & Alcohol Strategy, focuses on the “average” drink driver and highlights the consequences of drink driving including the level of fines and length of a driving ban.
‘We want to educate those people who often just have “one more” because they live “just down the road” and so in order to do that we need to spread the message as far as we can. We want to thank Guernsey Police for their help, Lagan Construction for their financial support and Hamilton Brooke who have provided their creative services at no cost. By working together, we can make a difference in improving road safety,’ said Andrea Nightingale, the Drug and Alcohol Strategy co-ordinator.
Edwin Ryan from Lagan Construction Group said their vehicles would ensure the message was seen on the roads every day.
‘Road safety is one of Lagan Construction’s priorities and we invest significant time and budget into ensuring our drivers receive the highest levels of training. We work closely with Guernsey Police and so had no hesitation in agreeing to help them promote the anti drink drive campaign,’ he said.
