As part of this year’s popular Arts Sunday event, which took place on 8th June and received over 10,000 attendees, the Guernsey Arts Commission announced a new initiative, EXPRESS YOURSELF.
Using this year’s theme of ‘Living on an island’, all islanders of whatever age were encouraged to post their responses to the Arts Sunday Facebook page. Entries were open to any art and design form, giving islanders a chance to be as creative as they wished. EXPRESS YOURSELF has received a variety of entries, ranging from poetry, photography and screen-prints, to a dress made from Guernsey Press papers.
Entries that were uploaded to the Arts Sunday Facebook page, the virtual gallery, will be displayed, broadcast and played, in the exhibition at the greenhouse at Guernsey Information Centre, opening Tuesday 24th June.
Amongst a number of activities, Arts Sunday gave visitors a chance to get creative by painting a large skyline of Guernsey, spread across the end of Crown Pier. Each person painted a section to create the finished product. This activity was well received by all and the skyline will also be displayed in the exhibition, giving participants the chance to view a piece of art work they helped produce.
The exhibition will also give anyone who enjoyed Arts Sunday a chance to view the professional video of the day, produced by Creative Photography.
The Arts Sunday committee are hoping lots of people will attend the opening to view the submitted work, hoping it will encourage islanders to get involved with future creative projects, giving everyone a chance to join in.
All are welcome to attend the official opening of the Express Yourself community exhibition at the greenhouse at the Guernsey Information Centre – Tuesday 24th June, 4.00pm-7.00pm, Free entry.
