For the first time this year, the Guernsey Sports Commission have teamed up with the Ray Lowe Sporting Foundation to offer a selection of activities to keep young people active during the February Half Term. The programme, which offers those in Primary & Secondary School the chance to play different sports for only £1, will return from 17th-21st February during half term.
Participants in school years Reception-Year 2 will get the chance to take part in our Fun & Fit Club whilst those in Year 3 – Year 6 will get the chance to sign up to five multisports sessions. Kerri Brown from the Guernsey Sports Commission highlighted that “these sessions introduce children to a range of different sports they may not have previously played in a fun, friendly and safe environment”.
Those in Secondary School have the chance to try Basketball, climbing and boxing for only £1. We are grateful for the support from the Youth Commission and The Caves Youth Café for supporting us in the provision of these opportunities.
Oliver Tracey, Marketing Officer at the Guernsey Sports Commission, highlighted the importance of this programme within the community as he said “some sports activities have a significant financial cost attributed to them, however this programme overcomes that barrier and allows anyone to take part in sports they may not have tried previously for only £1”.
Forms can be picked up from our offices at Beau Sejour Leisure Centre, or you can download one and return it to us here at the Guernsey Sports Commission by visiting www.guernseysports.com
