AWARD winning concert pianist and BBC Rising Star, Richard Uttley, will be demonstrating his musical expertise when he performs a recital at St James next week (Tuesday 15 April 2014).
Richard has given recitals or performed concertos in most of the UK’s major halls, including Birmingham Symphony, Bridgewater, Brighton Dome, Cadogan, Purcell Room, Queen Elizabeth, Royal Festival, Sage Gateshead and Wigmore. Festival appearances include Beverley, City of London, Huddersfield Contemporary Music, Lincolnshire International Chamber Music, Ryedale and Ribble Valley International Piano Week.
Recent concerto performances have been in partnership with the National Symphony Orchestra (conducted by Anthony Inglis), Brighton Philharmonic (conducted by Barry Wordsworth) and Kensington Symphony Orchestra (conducted by Russell Keable).
His awards include 1st prizes in the Haverhill Sinfonia Soloist Competition 2010 and the British Contemporary Piano Competition 2006, as well as the Myra Hess Scholarship 2009.
He has recorded two critically-acclaimed recital discs and commissioned works from composers including Timothy Jackson, Mark Simpson and Chris Willis. Composers he has played to include Thomas Adès, Louis Andriessen, Sally Beamish, Brian Ferneyhough and Robin Holloway.
This season Richard collaborates with Ian Buckle (piano), Peter Facer (oboe), Rolf Hind (piano), Ella Rundle (cello), and Mark Simpson (clarinet) – the latter in recordings and recitals including a Wigmore Hall recital live broadcast on Radio 3 for the BBC New Generation Artists Scheme – and with the artist Nat Urazmetova in an experimental project supported by the Help Musicians UK’s Emerging Excellence Awards.
