The largest Channel Islands creative agency, Betley Whitehorne Image (BWI) has won the account to build the Gibraltar Football Association’s (GFA) new website.
Having recently been accepted as members of UEFA (Union of European Football Associations), the GFA now has a national team taking part in the qualifying rounds for Euro 2016.
Dennis Beiso of the GFA said: ‘We are, quite literally, playing in a different footballing league now and felt our new website needed to reflect this. We were impressed with the functionality, design and professionalism BWI were able to offer and are delighted with their innovative ideas for our online presence which permanently puts Gibraltar on the world stage.’
After many years of perseverance and setbacks, Gibraltar was finally accepted as the 54th (and smallest) member of UEFA last year, with the government declaring a half day’s holiday for everyone when the news was announced.
With no football stadium large enough by UEFA standards in Gibraltar, the national team travels 150 miles to one in Portugal for its ‘home’ matches, with all the players classed as amateurs with busy jobs during the day.
Ed Sherbourne, BWI’s e-Business Director said: ‘We’re absolutely delighted to be working on such an interesting website. The GFA’s profile is only going to get bigger and it gives us, as a business, a wider audience to showcase our skills to.
‘The Gibraltarian team could potentially be playing the likes of Germany and of course England so we’re working hard to produce a website that will be as good as, if not better, than those of the teams they will be playing against!’
Chris Betley, BWI’s Managing Director said: ‘Through our office in Gibraltar we have secured a really exciting and different piece of new business which will have significant input from the BWI web development team. Although we can’t bring home any silverware for the team, we’ll certainly provide them with a winning website’
