Guernsey businesses have their own chance to go utterly quackers at this year’s Harbour Carnival, which takes place on Friday 6th July. Organisers, the Guernsey Round Table, are inviting companies to wade in and pledge £200 to secure a place in the Corporate Duck Race, which is a new event on the 2012 bill.
Shaun Gourley, Vice President of the Guernsey Round Table, said that the idea of introducing an event for corporates had come about after the success of last year’s rubber duck race, which raised £3,000 alone. ‘We were staggered by the response to the mini duck race last year and thought it would be a great idea to go large and get businesses involved with a new event,’ said Mr Gourley. ‘I’m delighted to say the Corporate Duck Race has already set feathers flying. However, space is limited and we have just 50 slots available. We’re advising businesses not to delay in pledging £200 to ensure they can take part on the day.’
The new corporate ducks measure 30 x 23 x 23cm and businesses can have their company logo on the duck so that the identity of the winner is in no doubt. They will be launched from a net in the harbour in the same way that last year’s mini duck race was organised. However, the Corporate Duck Race will take place first.
RBC Wealth Management is sponsoring the Harbour Carnival once again this year. Alan Pearce, from RBC’s Guernsey Leadership Team, said: ‘We are working closely with the Round Table to ensure that the event continues to be a huge success and the Corporate Duck Race is a fantastic addition to the line up. We have pledged our support and we invite other local businesses to join us in supporting this event and helping to raise money for charity.’
