Butterfield leans towards Yoga
Guernsey News, 13 January 2010 – BUTTERFIELD has organised for ex-employee and professional yoga coach Emma Despres to give regular yoga lessons to staff.
The sessions, which are scheduled every Tuesday in the company’s training room, have proved popular with many staff attending each week.
Assistant manager in banking compliance, Jo Luce, said the classes were the perfect desk-break for lunchtimes.
“I have been to a few yoga classes but I find Emma’s teaching really superb. It’s more physical than some and you do get a bit of a work out, but not so much so that it would be uncomfortable to return to work. It’s also very relaxing and I go back to my desk feeling refreshed. She’s got the balance just right.”
Miss Despres was short-listed for the recent ‘Bright Ideas’ event for her yoga teaching business and is hoping to extend this into the corporate market.
“Yoga is a fantastic time out from the routine of daily desk life. Having sessions at work makes it affordable and accessible, especially for those that do not have time in the evenings,” said Miss Despres.
“I used to work in the trust department at Butterfield before I became a yoga teacher so it is great to be able to return to Butterfield to teach some of my old colleagues. I think the company has a very supportive culture, and the fact that they are providing yoga lessons is a reflection of this,” she added.
Butterfield managing director, Bob Moore, said: “When so many of us are short of time, we thought it would be a good idea to provide staff with convenient access to regular classes and help them maintain a work life balance.”
