Guernsey charities are being invited to apply to become the main beneficiary of this year’s Harbour Carnival, which will take place on Friday 9 August.
Each year, the Harbour Carnival, which is organised by the Guernsey Round Table and sponsored by RBC Wealth Management, raises a substantial amount of money; 50% of which goes to the main beneficiary and 50% to other local good causes.
A record-breaking £24,000 was raised last year and the Guernsey Round Table is looking to replicate that success again this year. Shaun Gourley, President said: ‘This is a fantastic opportunity for a Guernsey charity to receive a large boost to their funding, and allow them to make a deserving difference to the work that they do on the Island. If you are a charity that would like to be considered and are able to offer assistance, both before and during the evening of the Harbour Carnival, please do get in touch with us.
‘Last year’s beneficiary was the Bailiwick of Guernsey Scouts Association and they really got involved with the event. They helped with the sale of the mini ducks, built rafts to enter the various races and helped out on the night with fundraising. It is this kind of community team spirit that we’d like to see from the chosen charity for this year.’
Alan Pearce, Chair of the Guernsey Leadership Team at RBC Wealth Management commented: ‘The Harbour Carnival is not only a key date in Guernsey’s community calendar and a fantastic summer’s evening out, but also presents a great opportunity to raise money for organisations that are having a real impact on people’s lives. We are proud to have sponsored this event over the past six years, and hope that charities will step forward for the chance to benefit from the generosity and good spirit of the local community.’
Applicants should write via email to Shaun Gourley, President of the Guernsey Round Table at firstname.lastname@example.org, stating their Association of Guernsey Charities membership number, the nature of their charity, how they would use the funding and the resources they could provide to help with fundraising. The closing date from funding applications is Thursday 28 March, 2013.
