Tickets are now on sale for one of the most celebrated musicals ever – Chess. Written by Benny and Bjorn of Abba fame and with lyrics by Tim Rice, this West End and Broadway smash-hit musical has been wowing audiences around the globe for nearly 20 years.
The musical will run for three nights at the Sir John Loveridge Hall at Beau Sejour from 26 November. This new, specially designed production of Chess will star a full complement of West End stars plus a full, live orchestra. In addition, as part of an ongoing commitment to providing professional theatrical opportunities to the people of Guernsey, Chess will also feature a choir of local performers.
Milton Morrissey, who most recently brought The West End Men to the Island is staging the musical. Producer Paul Morrissey, who is originally from Guernsey, said: ‘ We are hugely excited to be bringing such an extraordinary show to Guernsey. For two and a quarter hours, audiences can sit back and enjoy a first-class theatre production with some truly incredibly songs. Who doesn’t remember such iconic numbers as ‘One Night in Bangkok’ and Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson singing ‘I Know Him So Well’?
Chess follows the story of two Chess Grand Masters, an American and a Russian, who are not only competing over the game and political conspiracy, but also for the love of a woman – whilst their countries, poised on the brink of nuclear conflict, look anxiously on.
Chess will be at Beau Sejour from 26-28 November and tickets can be booked online now at www.guernseytickets.gg or by calling 01481 747280.
