Collas Crill group partner Angela Calnan has been shortlisted in the WealthBriefing European Awards 2014.
Angela, one of Guernsey’s foremost fiduciary lawyers, has been shortlisted for the Women In Wealth Management category, which is open to women in private banking or wealth management who are an inspiration both to female clients and colleagues.
At only 36, Angela is one of Collas Crill’s youngest and most successful partners and she heads the firm’s fiduciary team in Guernsey.
Recently described as “a force to be reckoned” with by Legal 500 and a “future leader” by Citywealth, Angela has been at the forefront of driving the firm’s innovative fiduciary practice in Guernsey since she arrived in the Island in 2012. Her unstuffy, modern, plain English approach has been described by clients as “a breath of fresh air”.
Kathryn Purkis, head of fiduciary at Collas Crill said: “Angela is a very talented, able and dedicated lawyer with a practical and efficient approach that commends itself to her many clients, and her particular understanding of and connections in the Middle East are also much valued in the firm.”
Angela has achieved significantly more than most at a relatively young age. She has:
- been a litigator in the High Court in London with Penningtons Manches LLP undertaking some of the Chancery Division’s highest profile cases including Kostic v Chaplin & Ors ;
- led the private capital practice of Lawrence Graham’s Dubai office for a number of years;
- helped to establish Collas Crill’s wealth management practice in Singapore; and
- led Collas Crill’s Fiduciary Team in Guernsey.
Angela is a natural leader and motivator and, throughout her career, those trainee solicitors and junior lawyers who have been trained and mentored by her have gone on to qualify and become excellent young lawyers as a result of Angela’s leadership.
Angela is often seen at the cutting edge of innovations in wealth management. She has been a driving force behind the roll out of Guernsey’s new Foundations legislation and is regarded as the leading lawyer in the Island for this work, having registered a quarter of the Foundations currently on the register.
Showcasing the best of providers in the global private banking, wealth management and trusted advisor communities, the WealthBriefing awards recognise companies, teams and individuals who the judges believe have demonstrated innovation and excellence during 2013.
ClearView Financial Media’s Managing Director, and Publisher of WealthBriefing, Stephen Harris, extended his congratulations to the shortlisted firms.
He said: “These awards recognise the very best operators in the private client industry, with ‘independence’, ‘integrity’ and ‘genuine insight’ the watchwords of the judging process – such that the awards truly reflect excellence in wealth management.”
Winners will be announced at a gala awards dinner at The Guildhall, City of London on 15 May 2014.
