TWO directors at Mercator Trust have been awarded the IoD diploma in company direction.
Sharon McMillan and Mark Douglas took the nine-month course to gain further qualifications in strategy and corporate governance.
The diploma gives a greater understanding of marketing and human resource strategy as well as organisational structuring to meet business objectives and to plan for future success.
Ms McMillan qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Scotland before moving to Guernsey and has worked in both the accountancy and fiduciary sectors. She joined Mercator in 2008 as a board director and chief operating officer.
Mr Douglas is also a Chartered Accountant and has previously held senior management positions in both Guernsey and Australia. He was appointed managing director of Mercator Fund Services in July 2009 having previously been managing director of another local fund administration business.
Mercator managing director, David Preston, said Ms McMillan and Mr Douglas’ success demonstrated the importance that Mercator placed on training.
“Professional development is absolutely vital in order to maintain our high standard of service and having two more senior staff qualified with such a relevant qualification means we have an even stronger leadership team.”
