The Guernsey Sports Commission is proud to announce the return of the popular ‘Quids in Programme’ during the February half term (11th-15th February).

The programme is organised and run by the Guernsey Sports Commission, and for the duration of 2013 is being supported by the Ray Lowe Sporting Foundation. The programme offers young people aged between 8-16yrsthe chance to try to stay active during the school holidays for only £1 per session.

During the February half term multisports will be offered to those in Primary School, and will be on offer from 8.45am-12pm on four days. These sessions will be carried out in the Grammar School main sports hall.

Those in Secondary School have the chance to participate in a range of activities which include two sports camps and a ‘fun and fitness’ session. The sports camp offers young people the chance to play a range of different sports they may not have tried before. Tennis, volleyball, badminton, hockey, basketball and cricket are offered as well as an individual touch rugby session. All of the secondary activities are due to take place at Beau Sejour Leisure Centre.

Oliver Tracey, Marketing Officer at the Guernsey Sports Commission, highlights “trying new sports when you are young is very important, and it is through this programme that we aim to introduce children to sports they previously haven’t taken part in.”.

The Trustees of the Ray Lowe Sporting Foundation are delighted to be able to support the “Quids in” Programme as they believe sport is an excellent medium through which to develop positive attributes amongst our young people including building confidence, developing social skills and helping overcome social disadvantage whilst also encouraging a healthy attitude to exercise, nutrition and wellbeing. The lessons learnt when playing sport from an early age are invaluable and transferrable – in fact, they are essential life skills, crucial to the development of our younger generation.
