Fund Services firm Ipes’ new hire marks the start of its local Graduate Scheme

Ipes has launched a graduate scheme to encourage graduates who return to Guernsey to develop a career in finance locally.

The 12 month programme will see graduates undertaking a series of work placements with a number of teams across the business.

They will also benefit from a combination of formal and on the job training and receive support from a mentor. At the end of the placement they will be appointed to a team on a permanent basis and commence professional study.

Karen Haith, Operations Director Ipes Guernsey says, “We are really pleased our graduate scheme is now underway. Attracting and retaining skilled individuals is critical to our continued growth and development and we felt it was important to encourage graduates back to Guernsey benefiting our business and the island by nurturing local talent.”

Dominic McLuskey joined Ipes in January and is the first graduate to take part in the formal scheme. He is currently working in Ipes’ new business team and over the next 12 months will work in various teams focusing on different aspects of the business and providing a fast-track to a client facing role.

Having returned to Guernsey after completing his education in France and America where he held a number of tennis scholarships including one at the ISP Tennis Academy in Nice and the Tyler College in Texas, Dominic wanted to develop his career in finance.

He says, “After spending a number of years away from Guernsey I was keen to return and settle into a full time career. The role at Ipes really appealed to me as it is my first position in the finance industry, it is great to have the opportunity to gain experience in a number of areas in a successful and growing business. I’ve also been given a buddy in the business that I can go to with queries and this has been really helpful.”

Since the firm was established in Guernsey in 1998, Ipes has grown significantly and continues to do. The Ipes group now employs more than 130 people and has more than $40bn of client assets under administration.

“In the last 12 months the business in Guernsey has taken on a number of new clients and we expect this to continue during 2012. The graduate scheme will help us to support this growth and we hope to recruit further graduates onto our scheme during the course of the year” explains Haith.

To offer graduates the opportunity to find out more about Ipes and the scheme the firm is holding an informal drop-in evening in March.

Ipes will be holding a drop in evening on 27 March 2012 at their offices 1 Royal Plaza, St Peter Port, Guernsey from 5pm until 7.30pm. Local graduates, students who are seeking employment following the completion of their A-Levels and experienced hires seeking a new challenge are welcome to attend.
