The Skipton Swimarathon today announced that Roary and the Green Lions are to be this year’s event Ambassadors, with the footballers pledging to enter at least two teams into the popular fundraiser which takes place at Beau Sejour from 02 to 06 October.
Chairman of the Skipton Swimarathon committee Steve Hogg explained that the decision to approach Guernsey Football Club seemed the natural thing to do, after Guernsey’s first outdoor publicly accessible defibrillator was installed and unveiled by celebrity ex premiership footballer Fabrice Muamba at the Footes Lane sports complex last year. This potentially lifesaving medical equipment was funded entirely from monies raised by the 2012 Skipton Swimarathon and this year’s event has pledged to donate at least £25,000 towards the costs of redeveloping and refurbishing the much loved Children’s Playground at Saumarez Park.
Jim Coupe from the sponsors Skipton International added, “We are delighted that Roary and friends have agreed to be the event Ambassadors. The presence of at least two teams of footballers in the pool is set to add a significant amount of glamour to what is already a great fun family event.”
Over the coming weeks, information about this year’s Skipton Swimarathon will appear on the website, www.swimarathon.org , on Facebook and Twitter.
