GUERNSEY will be now be showcased on Sure TV after Sure teamed up with Spike Productions.
Sure launched Sure TV in October 2012 and with more channels than Freeview, better recording functions than Sky +, an app-based programme guide and out of the home remote recording, demand for the service has already exceeded expectations.
‘Sure TV has for the first time given islanders a real choice in TV platforms and the significant investment made in this new technology has already proved to be a worthwhile one,’ said chief executive Eddie Saints.
‘One of the features we were very keen to include was the ability to view local content. We have already formed a relationship with Guernsey FC and included local radio stations and information and so it is fantastic that we are now building on that by working with Spike Productions.’
Spike Productions will be providing material that it has produced for Visit Guernsey, which includes features on hedge veg, Porky’s organic pig farm, a day in the life of the island and the history of the potato peel pie.
‘Guernsey is a unique place to live and Visit Guernsey does an excellent job in marketing what makes the island special to the world. We hope that by sharing that with islanders will make them proud of where they live,’ said Mr Saints.
Warren Mauger from Spike Productions said that having another media channel to be able to share local content was good news.
‘We have some very talented people within the island producing some excellent material and so to have Sure TV as a way of showcasing that work is fantastic. We hope that islanders will enjoy seeing how Visit Guernsey promotes their home to people across the world and look forward to sharing more content over the coming months.’
Sure TV, which is free to some Sure customers, offers popular channels that are currently not available to Guernsey’s Freeview viewers, including: ITV4, Film 4, Five, Five USA, CITV and local radio stations. It also incorporates features such as High Definition TV (HDTV), up to 160 hours of recording time and the ability to record two channels whilst watching a third.
Sure TV viewers will also be able to pause and rewind shows whilst they are watching programmes, have easy access to multi-room viewing and will even be able to browse the programme guide and set their Sure TV Box to record whilst away from their house. The set-top box also acts as a full media centre playing videos, music and pictures via the USB port or directly from a PC via Wifi.
‘We have been working on phase II of our additional channels strategy and will be making further announcements shortly,’ said Mr Saints.
More information about the service is available online at www.surecw.com or from the Sure store in the High Street.
