35 of the island’s most talented musicians will perform at this year’s Sinfonietta next month thanks to sponsorship from several local companies.
Theevent’s theme is ‘Russian romance’ and the programme promises a mixture of Russian orchestral music, including Rachmaninoff’s ‘Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini’ and Tchaikovsky’s ‘Symphony No. 6’.
This is the sixth year the event has taken place thanks to support from Butterfield, BWCI, Rothschild, Aurigny and the Guernsey Arts Commission.
Local musicians will be joined by approximately 30 UK performers for the show which will be held at St James on Saturday 9 August.
The Sinfoniettawill open with ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by Tchaikovsky which is based on Shakespeare’s famed tale. Tom Hicks, a local pianist, will then showcase his award winningskills with Rachmaninoff’s ‘Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini’ and the performance will close with Tchaikovsky’s ‘Symphony No. 6’.
Founder and principal conductor of the Guernsey Sinfonietta Sebastian Grand said he was looking forward to the event after the success of previous years: “We anticipate this will be another fantastic event and we are, as always, grateful to the sponsors for their support.”
