Home-Start goes on the hunt for treasure

LOCAL family support charity Home-Start is holding its mid-summer treasure hunt around Saumarez Park later this month.

The fundraising event takes place on Friday 13 June at 6.30pm and will start and finish at the Saumarez Park tea rooms.

All are welcome to attend the event and explorers will be tasked to solve a mixture of observational and cryptic clues around the park, including the Victorian walled garden, before heading back to the tea rooms for a two course supper at 7.45pm. The evening will culminate in a charity raffle.

Organiser and Home-Start volunteer, Ali Le Tocq said: “We have had a lot of fun putting this event together as Saumarez Park is a great place to explore. Both adults and children will be able to enjoy this event and hopefully discover some hidden areas within park that they never knew existed.”

Home-Start was set up six years ago to recruit and train volunteers to support local families with young children in difficult situations by providing both emotional and practical support in their own homes.

Jurat Margaret Spaargaren, chair of Home-Start Guernsey, not only hopes to raise vital funds for the charity but to also increase awareness of the vital support Home Start provides to so many young families on the island.

“Many people have heard of Home-Start but are unsure of exactly what we do. As long as the family has at least one child under five years old we are able to provide some support no matter what the problem is. Our aim is to match the right volunteer to each family who will visit their home and offer support whatever the situation.”

For more information or to buy a ticket (£15 per adult and £6 per child) for the Home Start Treasure Hunt, contact Ali Le Tocq on 07781 109601 or by email on aliletocq@gmail.com.
