With less than one month to go until this year’s crop of swimmers dive in for the 2013 Skipton Swimarathon, the organisers are urging team captains to complete their registrations and reserve swimming lanes.
The event takes place at Beau Sejour between 2 – 6 October and is open to teams of four or more people. Swimmers can get together as family groups, friends, from clubs, schools and of course company teams are most welcome.
This year the Skipton Swimarathon has pledged to donate at least £25,000 towards the plans to redevelop and refurbish the much loved children’s playground at Saumarez Park. Work is expected to start on clearing the site in preparation for phase 1 before the end of October on this exciting project.
Event patron Roger Allsopp said: “This is the 37th year of the event and we hope lots of families, friends and works teams will come together to dive in and have fun and at the same time raise money for a great cause locally. Each year the event also attracts many swimmers in fancy dress and with the emphasis firmly on fun, all age groups and abilities are welcome, even if you only want to swim a couple of lengths.”
Last year over 170 teams swam more than 500 km to raise funds for Guernsey’s Cardiac Action Group. In April, at a packed ceremony at the Footes Lane Sports Complex, ex- Premiership footballer Fabrice Muamba unveiled the first unit purchased entirely by funds raised at the 2012 Skipton Swimarathon.
