Jordan Irvine and Catherine Rowles of Thomas and Miles, Guernsey are two happy, smiley people after securing a place on the prestigious and highly sought-after Clynol Protégé team.
This Clynol inspired team is put together after a gruelling judging process which took place in London this month where live cutting and styling work, presentation skills and potential for team work of the short-listed hopefuls were assessed. Put through their paces by the expert external judging panel of Hairdressers Journal’s Ruth Hunsley, Artistic Director of John Carne Andy Smith and expert Gemma Hensman of Hensmans Salons.
The national competition, open to those of age 25 and under, saw entrants compete against each other throughout a nerve-wracking day at Clynol’s London Academy for the opportunity to work for a year under the wing of Clynol’s premier hairdressers and technicians. They will also receive top end training from award-winning hairdressers, take to the stage for presentations and style their own photo-shoot as a finale to this spectacular 12 months.
Competition was fierce, but Clynol’s Protégé Team Manager, Jamie Farrar comments, “I am absolutely delighted with the team that has been selected. Each person has great potential and we already have a fantastic spread of existing skills – a couple of great little presenters, a couple of edgy creatives and some big characters – it’s going to be a fun year! With the brilliant standard that we had I was so confident of getting a fantastic team and thanks to the judges we potentially have one of the best. I think the people who come into this fantastic youth team honestly get stronger and stronger each year – it’s an exciting part of my job to work with them and bring the very best out of them.”
Jordan is over the moon with their success in the competition. “It means so much to me to have gained a place on the Clynol Protégé Team 2013. Being from Guernsey the opportunities in hairdressing are slightly more limited so I’m really excited to be travelling over to the UK to get involved with the creative side of hairdressing away from the salon floor and the training that we’ll get from Clynol’s top people. To be able to do this with Catherine is brilliant too as we are good friends so it’s great to share this with her. Our flight was delayed so it was such a stressful day getting over to London but it was all worth it!”
So watch this space and remember the names Jordan Irvine and Catherine Rowles, you’ll be seeing a lot more of them in 2013!
