Beckford’s Funeral Services Limited has added to its fleet of funeral vehicles by purchasing one of the newest designs of hearse, a Mercedes 250D.
The purchase is the latest step in the family-run company’s continued investment programme which started in 2011 with the rebuilding of the premises in Rue des Crabbes, St Saviours.
The vehicle is one of the first of the new style Mercedes hearses produced by UK based Coleman Milne, the market leader in creating, building and selling such specialised vehicles, and Beckford’s is the first Channel Islands funeral directors to have purchased this new model.
Special features of the vehicle include self-levelling suspension to enhance the driving experience, subdued LED lighting to the deck, dignified access for bearers ensured via the four doors, together with a soft close manual tailgate.
Beckford’s aims is to ensure its fleet of vehicles is kept up-to-date, and although hearses can and are kept longer, the firm prefers to upgrade each vehicle after five years. It currently has four vehicles in its fleet.
Jane Duquemin, Managing Director of Beckford’s, explained: ‘This upgrade to our funeral vehicles is part of our ongoing programme of investment to ensure that we offer the best facilities, vehicles and service to our clients, while continuing to offer traditional values of service.
‘We chose this model from the range of hearses available because it is one of the most modern in both style and features. Progressive firms of funeral directors, of which we see ourselves as one, are preferring vehicles and facilities which reflect a modern and flexible approach to funeral undertaking.’
