GUERNSEY Electricity has appointed Karen Martin as human resources manager to work as part of the company’s senior management team.
As human resources manager, Ms Martin’s role will include the development of Guernsey Electricity’s human resources plan and working with the directors to ensure human resources is an integral part of the company’s business strategy.
Ms Martin previously worked for RBC Wealth Management in an HR capacity, growing from an HR administrator to a senior management role leading a team of HR professionals across the Channel Islands.
Ms Martin is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and has a Master’s Degree in Strategic Human Resource Management.
As well as being a former Chair of the CIPD Group in Guernsey, she currently sits on the steering committees for Women’s Development and Women in Professions.
“I’m looking forward to getting to know the business and working as part of the Guernsey Electricity leadership team,” said Ms Martin.
“The energy sector is extremely complex and constantly developing. Utility companies plan decades in advance for capital investment and other strategic assets and it is important that proper consideration is given to the needs of the business from a staffing and recruitment point of view to meet the technological changes anticipated locally.
“This will be a considerable challenge and I am looking forward to using some of the skills learned whilst doing my Master’s degree and bringing the wealth of knowledge learned whilst working for RBC to my new role.”
Guernsey Electricity managing director, Alan Bates, said: “Karen is a great addition to the Guernsey Electricity management team; her experience and knowledge in human resources management are invaluable. I look forward to working with her on a number of projects and getting her expert input into the company’s business plan.”
