This year’s Careers Show is featuring a Volunteering Zone for the first time.
The show, which takes place at Beau Sejour on Wednesday 2 April, is divided up into industry-related zones this year, one of which is dedicated to the promotion of volunteering.
The Guernsey Community Foundation will be in attendance to promote the online volunteering portal www.volunteer.gg, alongside many other charities who make use of volunteers including Scouts, The Hub, Action for Children, Sports Commission, Youth Commission and Young Enterprise.
‘It’s great that volunteering is being recognised by the show organisers as a genuinely important contribution to building a career,’ said Laurel Le Tocq, Guernsey Community Foundation. ‘We want young people to understand that volunteering in the local community can really make your CV stand out from the many others that universities and employers have to sift through. In fact, this message applies beyond young people – it is beneficial for all job-seekers to have something different to say. The voluntary sector in Guernsey is vibrant and there are many different ways to get involved.’
There will be information stands, giveaways, leaflets, team games, and lots more in the Volunteering Zone and anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to visit the stands in the concourse any time between 9am and 7pm the day.
