The Guernsey Sports Commission have teamed up with the Ray Lowe Sporting Foundation and Liberation Management Limited to offer a selection of activities to keep young people active during the upcoming May Half Term. The programme, which offers those in Primary & Secondary School the chance to play different sports for only £1, will return from the 27th-30th May.

During the holidays, children in Reception – Year 2 can attend our Fun & Fitness session which aims to provide a fun and active session focusing on fundamental movement skills. Children in school Years 3-6, get the chance to participate in a number of different sports by attending our multisports sessions. These sessions are open to 40 young people every day and through the three hour session they will get the chance to take part in a number of sports which may include longball, tchoukball, circus-skills, tennis, basketball and tag rugby.

School children in Year 6 will get the chance to participate in a number of single sport activities with those in secondary school. The activities on offer this half term include Basketball, Dodgeball & Basketball. Jenny Murphy, Sports Development Officer at the Guernsey Sports Commission said, “we recognise that the transition from Primary to Secondary School can be a challenging one, and therefore not only wanted to increase the number of opportunities available to children in Year 6, but to enable them to engage in activities they will be doing when they join a secondary school”.

Roy Martel, the Secretary of the Ray Lowe Sporting Foundation said, “the Trustees of the Foundation are delighted, in conjunction with Liberation Management Limited, to be able to continue their funding of the ever popular Quids in Sports programme. Over 160 young people took part in the Easter programme and we hope the May Half-Term programme will also be as well attended. One of the prime purposes of the Foundation is to help young people to enjoy sport and the Quids in Sport programme is helping the Trustees achieve that purpose perfectly”.

David Rowlinson, Managing Director of Liberation Management Limited, said “we are delighted to be continuing our sponsorship of the Quids in Sports programme. Easter was once again a great success and the programme for May half term is full of exciting activities”.
