THIS year’s Rock to Rocque and 30/30 challenges have raised £85,000 for Les Bourgs Hospice.
The annual fundraisers saw hundreds of islanders take to their bicycles at the end of May to raise money for the hospice.
‘We’re amazed at the amount that these popular events continue to raise each year. This was the 18th year of the Rock to Rocque and in that time, it has raised more than £500,000 for Les Bourgs. The 30/30 challenge is an incredible commitment for those who take part and really makes a significant difference to the fundraising totally,’ said chairman of the Friends of Les Bourgs Hospice Jack Honeybill.
Despite the weather, more than 650 people took part in the Rock to Rocque, which saw cyclists chose one of three routes of varying lengths around the island. The 30/30 challenge began in 2008 and is championed by Ian Brown. Each year cyclists commit to riding for an hour every day for 30 days and this year’s event involved 40 people.
‘We want to thank everyone who took part, whether it was just on the day or for the whole month. Each one of them has made a contribution which will help Les Bourgs Hospice complete its current redevelopment and continue offering the much-needed support and care to so many islanders,’ said Mr Honeybill.
Next year’s Rock to Rocque has already been confirmed and will take place on Sunday 3rd June 2012.
