Saffery Champness hosts charity “50 Shades of Earl Grey” pampering tea party

Taking its cue from the indulgence in the book that has taken the world by storm, Saffery Champness staff have organised a “50 Shades of Earl Grey” pampering tea party to raise funds for CLIC Sargent.

Saffery Champness partners the local branch of CLIC Sargent to help with its fundraising as well as trying to raise the profile and awareness of the charity and the support it can offer local families.

“50 Shades of Earl Grey” promises to be one of its biggest fund-raising events of the year for the charity.

The event is run in association with CLIC’s “Great Mums Get Together”, a national initiative which gives women the chance to get together for a cup of tea, some cake and ultimately to raise money for children and young people with cancer, and their families.

“Our Guernsey ‘50 Shades of Earl Grey’ fund raising event is open to everyone though, not just mums,” said Lisa Vizia, a director of Saffery Champness.

The ticket-only fund raising event has the capacity for 200 people and will be held at the Duke of Richmond on Sunday 3 March from 2pm until 5.30 p.m.

While enjoying afternoon tea, and supping a glass of bubbly, attendees will be able to indulge in all manner of pampering and shopping in the ‘Area of Indulgence’ where clothing boutique, Free Love will be debuting its latest range of handbags and shoes, the Day Salon will be offering mini spa treatments, students from the College of Further Education will be helping with manicures whilst the Sports and Remedial Massage Clinic will provide back, neck and shoulder treatments. Thomas and Miles hairdressers will be offering styling tips and up do’s, and Jamie Oliver cookware, Ice Jewellery and Claire Tetlow’s Cakes n Bakes will each have areas. The day will be captured by local photographer and artist Lucy Fleming. Avenue Flowers will be providing the floral displays.

Local CLIC Sargent representatives are also excited to hear that Daphne Pullen OBE, CLIC’s Chair of Trustees, will be coming over from the UK to attend the event.. A retired authority lawyer, Ms Pullen was previously Chair of the Samaritans and Vice Chair of a branch of Victim Support. She also continues to be a Helpline volunteer which she has done for more than 20 years so has a great deal of experience within the voluntary sector.

“As you can imagine our in-house team, together with the charity, have had a lot of fun organising the event. We have also been overwhelmed by the tremendous amount of support we have received from other businesses and individuals who have given up their valuable spare time to help raise as much money as possible for this extremely worthy cause,” said Ms Vizia.

The tickets cost £20 and will entitle each person to afternoon tea with a glass of bubbly – the total of the ticket sales and raffle will be donated to CLIC. The charity will also receive a proportion of all sales from the stalls in the Area of Indulgence.

“We are underwriting all the event costs so that every penny raised can go to CLIC,” said Ms Vizia.

Belinda Netherton, CLIC Sargent Guernsey Chair said: “We have held an annual tea party for some time now but never before has it been at such a grand scale. This is thanks to the wonderful team at Saffery Champness who have gone to great efforts to make this afternoon not only one of indulgence but one which will hopefully raise a significant amount of money for our charity. I have been overwhelmed by Saffery staff’s energy and enthusiasm. We are delighted that our Chair of Trustees will be attending.”
