FATHER Christmas will be back in town on Saturday 1st December to switch on the Christmas lights at 5.00pm.
Leaving his reindeer behind, he will arrive by fire engine at 3.55pm at this year’s starting point for the parade – the Yacht Club.
The Scout Band, who are leading the parade, will play upon his arrival and as usual he will be joined by a parade of elves. Other favourite film characters as well as cast members from Humpty Dumpty and the St Stephen’s pantomime will also join Santa on his visit, before he makes his way at around 4.10 pm to Town Church Square. The public is invited to gather outside the Yacht Club from 3.30 pm.
Those waiting in the square will be entertained from 4 pm by Oscar Puffin, the Guernsey Youth Theatre choir and Capelles singing choir. It is expected that the parade will arrive in the square at 4.40 pm when Father Christmas and his helpers will meet the crowd and collect the children’s letters.
Vice President of the Young Business Group Liz Hodder said: ‘The Young Business Group is working hard to organise this year’s switch-on day and we are expecting to see lots of families come down and get involved.
‘This day is an eagerly anticipated fixture in Guernsey’s calendar of family events, there is something for everyone and the atmosphere is always incredible.
‘I am so looking forward to seeing people’s reaction to the lights on the day. I think they are going to be really spectacular.’
Local radio personalities will be hosting the event, getting the crowd in the festive spirit, introducing the parade characters and helping Father Christmas with the countdown to the big switch on at 5.00pm.
Father Christmas said: ‘I want to remind all the children to bring their letters with them on 1 December and make sure they put their addresses on the back so that I can send a reply.’
