The Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association will be the beneficiary of a special event organised on 30th November by Spearpoint Limited who are part of Brooks Macdonald Group.

The business will be donating all of the commissions it earns on trades carried out on ‘Spearpoint Stockbroking Day’ to the locally based charity. The company asked clients, friends and members of the public to nominate an organisation they felt should benefit from the initiative.

The Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association was chosen from the nominations received. Chris Macdonald, Chief Executive of Brooks Macdonald Group said: ‘We were delighted to have received so many nominations and very pleased that the Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association is to be the beneficiary of this initiative. Spearpoint and the wider Brooks Macdonald Group are committed to supporting local organisations and we feel this is a very tangible way of demonstrating that commitment.’

Jurat Michael Tanguy, Chairman of the Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association, said: ‘We are extremely grateful to Spearpoint for this opportunity, not only to raise funds but awareness for our organisation. The Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association was formed three years ago and in 2010 became independent of the UK association, so all of our fundraising and work is solely for the benefit of Guernsey people in the Bailiwick of Guernsey. Having the support of a Guernsey-based firm like Spearpoint is extremely important to us.’

The charity was nominated by Deutsche Bank International in Guernsey and by Oak Trust (Guernsey) Limited.

Ali Renouf of Deutsche Bank International said: ‘The Guernsey Alzheimers Association carries out such good work to support the families and sufferers of dementia. We have supported the organisation for a couple of years now and have plans to help them improve their outdoor space next year.’

Helaine Vermeulen of Oak Trust (Guernsey) Ltd echoed those comments: ‘This charity offers vital support for dementia sufferers and their carers. The Spearpoint Stockbroking Day is a terrific way of supporting that work and we hope it raises awareness of the organisation and the work it carries out.’

Spearpoint launched its Stockbroking Day initiative in September. All of the world’s markets will be open as usual on 30th November and the firm hopes to raise a significant amount of money for the chosen charity.

The Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association aims to help those who care for people with dementia. In 2010 the Association was awarded the gift from Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth 2 of “The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service”.
