ST JAMES Concert & Assembly Hall is well known as a concert venue, but how well do you know the Dorey Centre and the hire opportunities available within it? On Wednesday 4 June 2014 the Council of the Friends of St James will be hosting a lunch and presentation to show all just what ‘St James’ has to offer.
Officially opened in 2002 the impressive Dorey Centre provides a home for the Millennium Tapestry Gallery as well as sporting four, multipurpose, function rooms of varying sizes and its own, increasingly popular café; Jimmy’s.
Since its inception the facility has become increasingly popular hosting a variety of events from seminars and board meetings, to small recitals and, most recently, the CBeebies.
Director of St James, Kirstin Simon, said that whilst the hall and the centre enjoy a busy programme, there were still many that don’t realise just how busy the facility is and the various opportunities available to prospective hirers.
‘The Dorey Centre is an attractive and versatile venue comprising meeting rooms of varying sizes. Our central location, onsite catering and technical facilities make us a great choice for the business community when they are looking at hosting out of office meetings, seminars or even training sessions. Most people only get to see our public face when they come along to concerts or other social occasions.
To maintain the Dorey Centre and the Whittaker Hall, as well as its programme of events, St James needs to sell itself as widely as possible and the open day gives us the chance to show off what we can do and how well we can do it. ‘
