AROUND 6,000 people combined with 200 Sure Big Screen t-shirts, 1,000 packets of free popcorn, 200 Sure cocktail shakers, 300 Sure watches and sunglasses and 500 free ice-creams made this year’s Sure Big Screen the most successful to date.
‘It was a fantastic week and I couldn’t believe how popular it was. Every film attracted more than 250 people with Les Miserables watched by over 400 and a record crowd of around 750 watching the finale of Skyfall on Monday,’ said Sure’s marketing and PR manager Jess Bisson.
‘The feedback we have had has been brilliant and so many people have thanked us for putting it on. Sure Big Screen is one of the very few events where people can come and be entertained for a couple of hours without having to pay for anything and that’s what makes it so popular. It’s a huge financial investment for Sure but we know how much it is appreciated which is why we do it year after year.’
Heavy rain on Friday night meant the showing of Les Miserables had to be stopped about 45 minutes from the end and high winds on Saturday meant none of the scheduled screenings could go ahead.
‘The weather is the only thing we can’t control. It was disappointing that we had to cancel Saturday’s showings but we put on an extra film on Sunday and given that it is a week long, we were incredibly lucky to have the great weather we did. Because it was so warm, people arrived early and enjoyed picnics before the film started and that added to the atmosphere,’ said Miss Bisson.
The final visit of the 12sq. m. screen will be on Saturday 7th September when Sure has covered the cost of it coming over for the Last Night of the Proms on Albert Pier. Sure also covered the cost of bringing the screen over for Liberation Day.
‘‘As the island’s largest telecoms provider, Sure wanted to be involved in what are probably the three largest events of the summer. Sure is committed to the community and through Liberation Day, Sure Big Screen and Last Night of the Proms, we have put ourselves at the heart of island life,’ said Miss Bisson.
Miss Bisson added that Sure was hopeful of Sure Big Screen returning again in 2014. Anyone wanting to give any feedback on the event can email firstname.lastname@example.org
