The two teams of Chefs from Jersey and Guernsey have been announced for this year’s Inter Island culinary battle. Both will shortly be gearing up for the ultimate challenge amongst the Island’s professional and student chefs.
The task they face is to create a five course meal, plus canapés, from a mystery basket of items, all of which has been donated by local suppliers.
The two captains have selected their teams from a long list of capable candidates, which includes at least one student, and which reflects the importance the Craft Guild places on passing culinary skills on to the next generation.
Each team will be given their list of ingredients one week prior to the competition and will have 24 hours to create an individual and creative winning menu. Once they have chosen their menu it is fixed and no changes will be permitted.
Both teams will be putting their skills to the test with the hope of being the winner of the Inter Island competition and to take home the Peter Queree trophy, named in honour of the former head of catering at Highlands College Jersey who passed away last year. Peter was a true culinary great and longstanding Craft Guild of Chefs member who had many links with both Islands.
During the two night event the teams will have to impress a discerning group of diners, including a judging panel of top London chefs; Henry Brosi, executive chef at The Dorchester, Paul Gayler, executive chef at the Lanesborough Hotel and Andrew Bennett MBE, who is food and beverages manager as well as executive chef at the Sheraton in Park Lane.
The Craft Guild of Chefs’ Inter Islands Challenge, is taking place on October 21-22 in the newly refurbished kitchens at the Academy of Culinary Arts, Highlands College Jersey.
This year’s winning team will be announced at the second dinner on the Tuesday evening, 22 October.
