TRAINING BUDGET BOOSTED BY CHARITY OF THE YEAR DONATION

GUERNSEY RNLIGuernsey News, 4 February 2010 – The RNLI Guernsey training budget has received a significant boost this month thanks to the fundraising efforts of staff from one local business.

Representatives from RBC Wealth Management’s Sports and Social Committee presented the local branch of the RNLI with a cheque for £8,128. RNLI was nominated by staff as their chosen charity of the year in 2009 and the money raised was a result of a series of fundraising events.

The donation has exceeded the expectations of Captain Peter Gill, Lifeboat Operations Manager and Guernsey’s Harbour Master. With a training budget of £19,000, the money will make a huge difference to RNLI Guernsey.

‘We are absolutely delighted with the donation,’ he said. ‘On average, training costs the RNLI £1,000 per crew member. It’s vital to ensure our crew is able to continue performing at its absolute best. We are all very grateful to the staff from RBC Wealth Management for their support.’

The RBC Wealth Management Sports and Social Committee organised dress down days, raffles, cake sales and other social events across the year. Irene Dooley, Sports and Social committee member, is very proud of the efforts of everyone involved.

As the charity of the year is voted for by the staff, everyone is very passionate about the fundraising,’ she said.

‘Through a number of activities including dress down days and raffles at our social events we have been able to raise a substantial amount of money. We are delighted to be able to present the donation to the RNLI Guernsey which continues to provide an invaluable service in our community.’
