ALY Bain, arguably the finest Scottish fiddle player of all time, and world-famous accordion player Phil Cunningham will be performing at St James on Thursday 10 April.
Aly and Phil have been playing to packed concert halls since 1988 and have toured extensively across the UK, Europe, Canada and the United States. They are both heralded for taking their respective instruments to heights and have been awarded an MBE and several honorary doctorates for their services to Scottish music.
Aly ‘s playing has been described as unique and driving, impassioned and pure, and with vibrant, unmistakable tone that has earned him a following of ardent fans throughout the world.
His dramatic playing filled with great tone and technical ability brought him early recognition as an outstanding musician of the folk music revival, and almost overnight, raised the level of expectation for music lovers throughout the country.
Phil is by no stretch of the mind the poor relation in this superb duo. Famed as one of the world’s most innovative instrumentalists he is an unfailingly affable, world-travelling ambassador for traditional music. His breezy banter and relaxed stage presence wows audiences and he is the winner of countless music awards, including a writer’s Grammy.
