Young People Encouraged To Stay Active This Summer For £1

The Guernsey Sports Commission is encouraging young people to stay active this summer by taking part in their Quids in Sports Programme due to run during the School Holidays starting on the 23rd July.

The Ray Lowe Sporting Foundation and Liberation Management Limited have sponsored the programme for the duration of 2014 and their continued support ensures that we can offer all of these opportunities to young people for only £1.

Activities on offer this summer include Multisports, Boxing, Fun and Fit Club, Surfing, Archery and Hip Hop & Street Dance. These activities are open to young people of all ages, and range from 5-18 and the programme is administered in school years. The Sports Commission are grateful to B-Creative, The Guernsey Surf School, The Caves and the North Youth Club who are helping to deliver these summer activities.

Jenny Murphy, Sports Development Officer at the Guernsey Sports Commission who has co-ordinated some of the secondary activities, highlighted “if young people are looking to stay active this summer and want to take part in a new sport or physical activity in a fun and friendly environment, you have come to the right place. Make sure you book your place as soon as possible as spaces are limited”.

Karen New, Trustee of the Ray Lowe Sporting Foundation said “we are very pleased with the variety of activities on offer this summer and are so delighted to be supporting it for the duration of 2014. There is really something for everyone on offer this summer! I know lots of young people will want to get involved with Surfing, Archery or even Street Dance during the holidays, and I hope that the selection of different physical activities available encourages them to try something new”.

David Rowlinson, Managing Director of Liberation Management Limited said ‘Liberation Management are delighted to continue their association with this excellent programme for youngsters. Quids in Sports goes from strength to strength and to provide 5 weeks of sporting opportunities is a great effort by the team from the Sports Commission and a
wonderful opportunity for the children involved”.

Forms are now available to be collected from the Sports Commission offices and at Beau Sejour main reception. They can also be downloaded online from www.guernseysports.com.

You can view updates on available activities alongside a behind the scenes look at the programme by following the Commission on Twitter using the handle @GuernseySports and by following the hashtag #QuidsInSports.
