The Guernsey Sports Commission are welcoming young people to join them for a new evening Street Sports session due to be held at Delancey Park starting this week on Friday.
With the support from the Youth Commission we will be running the first session starting Friday 20th June from 7-9pm, through the summer till the 29th August where our last session will be held at the Harbour Carnival in St. Peter Port.
This session will be delivered in addition to the three sessions we offer already, which include the following:
- Tuesday | Les Genats Estate | 7.00-9.00pm
- Wednesday | St. Martins Primary School | 7.00-9.00pm
- Thursday | Youth Commission, Les Ozouets Campus | 6.30-8.30 (Term time only)
The aim of Street Sports is to engage 11-18 year old boys and girls of all sporting abilities in positive physical activity. Shirley-Ann Parker, Street Sports co-ordinator, said “it is a community programme that aims to improve sports provision for young people in order to benefit their well-being. It offers young people of all abilities free sports and physical activity sessions in the neighbourhoods across the island”.
Street Sports continues to offer an opportunity for young people to be active, learn new sports skills, socialise and have fun. Staff provide equipment for a variety of sports and offer participants the choice of which activities they would like to do. Young people can just turn up, register with a member of staff and join in.
